Year: (Age) Event
-57: (0) Born to Nataliya and Hector Perseun, in Tauron capital. Nataliya was Gemenese, Hector a research scientist, specialising in robotics; one of the key figures in development of original Cylon models, alongside Daniel Greystone and Joseph Adams, his work being specifically the articulation of their artificial skeleton. Viktor was the youngest of three siblings. Two older brothers, both involved in similar cybernetic research.
-54: (3) Mother Nataliya dies of unexpected pulmonary condition, father becomes increasingly reclusive and engrossed in his work finishing Cylon prototypes. Later in the year, first Cylon models are unveiled near Viktor’s childhood home, and mass production begins. Cylons exported as slaves to other colonies and especially to work in off-world mining operations, etc.
-52: (5) 1st Cylon revolt starts the first Cylon War, Articles of Colonization, 1st democratic president elected, etc.
-50: (7) Perseun family now work helping to develop anti-Cylon weaponry. Perseun senior is reviled by many as one of the key creators of Cylon technology, but his intimate knowledge of the Cylon’s mechanical structure makes his insights invaluable to the Colonial war effort.
-41: (16) Battlestars Colombia and Galactica engage a Cylon fleet in orbit of Tauron, attempting to destroy the weapons research and production facility where the Perseuns are working. Both older brothers are killed by Cylon landing party. Viktor is badly injured in the attack and loses his right leg in a terrifying encounter with a damaged centurion.
-40: (17) Armistice ends the Cylon War. Cylons exile themselves from the Twelve Colonies; Viktor’s leg is replaced with a temporary pegleg, he finishes his scientific education with apparent ease; exceptional grades.
-38: (19) Hector Perseun agrees to abandon his weapons research and take on a less vital role in gas mining operation on Gemenon. While there, he replaces his son’s rudimentary pegleg with an altogether more advanced prosthetic, based on Cylon skeleton, and wired to Viktor’s nerve-endings.
-31: (26) Hector Perseun dies. Viktor decides to stay on his home world and begin a sustained period of research, focussing on energy fields and particle physics.
-29: (28) Publishes ‘The Breath of Life’; accusations of pseudo-science from many in the Tauron scientific elite, welcomed by many others as entirely original genius. This book is one of the first to refer to the Cylons as the ‘children of humanity’ and uses an extended family metaphor to explain the troubled relationship of the two races.
-20: (37) Colonial fleet expands dramatically, VP is outspoken in his condemnation. Many high-ranking military figures accuse him of inexcusable Cylon sympathies, treason, etc, especially in light of his family’s link to the creation of Cylon tech. He begins new research into experimental propulsion methods.
-17: (40) Sagittaron bombings. VP angers many when he publicly denies that there is any meaningful distinction between the actions of the SLF, the actions of the military, and the prior actions of the Cylons. All conflict is an ignorant game between immature ‘persons’, regardless of race, colony, etc.
-15: (42) Recruited by László Korin, founder and major shareholder of Korinus Trajectories, a Caprican speculative investment corporation. Korin is sympathetic to VP’s views and makes him head of his Deep Space Research program. VP accepts position and begins work on experimental FTL drive.
-13: (44) Viktor installs new FTL drive into Hyperion DSRV.
-12: (45) Hyperion is launched (from Caprica) on first, 5-year mission to uncharted reaches of space. VP is leading researcher on board.
-7: (50) VP returns to Caprica, claims startling new insights into the nature of spacetime.
-6: (51) Publishes ‘Messages from the Universe’, the basic premise of which is, not only is there an organising principle inherent in the universe, but that there are actually ‘sentences’ implicit in it’s structure; the universe as poem/treatise/experiment/joke. This work is condemned by many as incomprehensible and reliant on subjective/superstitious reasoning. Others regard it as one of the most astonishing insights into particle physics and the nature of the cosmos.
-5: (52) VP leaves on second 5 year mission on Hyperion, with blessing of László Korin.
-1: (56) Cylon’s return. Holocaust. Exodus.
