The Cylons launch a devastating attack on the fleet; the Myriad moves to take the brunt of the assault as the civilian vessels leave the belt and jump to safety. The Augea is left briefly exposed but the Raiders seem more interested in the Myriad than destroying the fleeing civilians. Both Basestars are heavily damaged and forced to withdraw but the Myriad takes a battering, losing half its hull integrity. The fleet limps to the edge of Colonial space, barely able to make use of FTL jumps.
The interrogation of Tyler, who calls himself Leoben, continues; the Colonials learn that there are many copies of each Cylon models and about their resurrection capabilities. Rumours begin to circulate amongst the survivors, so Stanton is forced to make a statement to the press. Panic erupts as the Colonials realise that Cylons may have walked among them for years.
It is some years ago and we see a younger Nestra Duvali as the Crazy Ace is searched by Colonial officers when it is stopped on the edge of the system. No contraband is found but once the officers have departed, Nestra alerts two hidden passengers that the coast is clear. One is her old friend Catteus Malo; the other is a tall, strikingly beautiful woman who we recognise as a Six.
Furik speaks to the press, claiming credit for the earlier success against the Cylons and causing sparks to fly with Darius. It becomes clear that there are other sources of strife as Stanton, promoted to XO of the Myriad, clashes with now-displaced Captain Zetes. The greater priority, however, is locating resources for repairs, doubly challenging because the CAG is out of action and all pilots trained to fly the Gryphon – the Myriad’s prototype stealth recon ship – were killed in the battle.
Two ceremonies are held, one to promote Darius to Commander, and Stanton and Zetes to Major, the other to commit the many bodies of the dead to the uncaring and endless void.
