We are on Tauron, just before the attacks; Stan Ramix hands over the Union negotiations to Althea Ward and asks her just how far she would go to protect the rights and lives of the workers. Althea does not know – only time and tide can tell. Ramix leaves and meets with a woman, Patricia Stark, who we recognise as a Six, who tells him about the discovery of the Galleon; Ramix says that Althea doesn’t know about his meetings with this woman, but just how much does Stanley Ramix know about the Cylons?

The kidnappers are holed up in one of the radioactive recycling units on the Augea; the only ways in area a sealed processing conduit and a long entranceway. Corvallo, the Master Chief, enters through the conduit, risking radiation poisoning; Darius himself storms the entranceway. Both marines are recovered, but two of the kidnappers are injured and Corvallo loses an arm. In the aftermath, Governor Ward decides Furik must face a civilian enquiry, facing the possibility of a death sentence.

At a Council Session, the potentates of the fleet argue over where to go next – attack the Tigris Sector, hide in Colonial space or flee beyond the Red Line. Teucer rows with Ward over her proposed seizure of assets but is interrupted by the Oracle, Meneses, bearing enigmatic tidings of an important choice and one who is among the Council showing their true face. Nereus also reports another calamity; some of the fleet’s medicines are contaminated and the crew has started falling ill.

Meanwhile, Nereus requests Dorian’s help in a strange matter: one of the hydroponics bays is operating beyond peak efficiency and he wants to know why. Their investigation is interrupted by shocking news: during a dinner in his quarters, Darius’ neck has been snapped, while his guests, Furik and Crane, have been poisoned. As Darius fights for his life, Ward and Stanton begin an investigation and make the horrifying discovery that Nicholai Crane is himself a Cylon agent. Crane escapes custody, rescues Alice Cestus from the brig and flees the Myriad in a Raptor. As waves of Cylon Raiders descend on the Myriad, Furik, rapidly recovered, follows a hunch and intercepts Crane’s Raptor, taking the traitor into custody. The investigation resumes into who poisoned Darius, Furik and Crane, and why...
