Fury takes the Foxbat to the wreck of the Hephaestus and enters the Basestar; as he does so, he finds three captured Colonial transports, but before he can confirm they are empty, the Cylons detect him. Fury drops the nuke and jumps out, destroying the Basestar along with the Raiders now docked with their mothership. The Myriad jumps in and boards the Hephaestus, beginning a pitched battle with Centurions for control of the wreck. Aboard, the marines find another Leoben, though he dies before he can be recovered, along with a corpse who looks exactly like Sheryl Timuc; the survivors have identified their second Cylon. The marines also find two scientists, collaborating with the Cylons, who claims the enemy is developing a new kind of weapon at a base in the Tigris Sector and using the Hephaestus as a test site. As the assault continues, the civilian fleet hides amid the debris of Ragnar Anchorage but is discovered by several wings of Raiders. Major Stanton conducts a stalwart defence of the fleet but his Vipers are hopelessly outnumbered. The ships flee but not before the Helios Refinery is boarded; Crane leads the hopeless defence against waves of Cylon Centurions until the Myriad, warned by Nestra Duvali, arrives to save the day. The Council decides that Cylon prisoners must be afforded human rights; as arguments rage over the fate of Sheryl Timuc, the Council decides that it must be led by a single individual, opening nominations for a fleet Governor and beginning preparations for democratic elections. |
